Hi kitty, u had almost done well. But I still have some comments about the exercise
In fifth sentence, either was or is is Ok, even if u ignore these words it is still ok.
In seventh sentence, u can use either were or was, it is acceptable, but nowadays English tend to use was but the sentence is fine as I asked my E teacher.
In ninth sentence, u made a slight mistake that used instead of use but I thought u had mistyped
In 14th sentence, in my opinion, it should be written the first way that start to do sth. It is the same property as the word "stop". U can find the word "stop" in some basic E grammar books. Sum up, u had done very well. Congratulation to u, lady.

Hello Kitty,
Your technical writing is very well, and I can tell you are the second to none in this site.
"Where 's Dragon Bridge ?
~~> Could u tell me where Dragon Bridge is ? { câu này dùng "was" dc ko ?" In this sentence you used "could" perfectly. When people ask other people for help or do something, they usually use "would" or "could" for polite (it doesn't have any thing about past tense). Next, You connected between independent and dependent sentences very well such as you use "so" and "because". you also reversed "report speech into normal writing" very well also (He said to me :"I can't finish the test on time" .
~~> He told me that he couldn't finish the test on time .). I love that.
Besides, you wrote about "condition", and I thought no one writes better than you. Unfortunately, there are a few sentences that I am not sure that they are the same:
"I started to learn E 3 years ago .
~~> I 've been learning English for 3 years .
or : I 've learnt E for 3 years ."
First, "you started to learn E 3 years ago".
Do you still start to learn E now? of course not.
Second, "you have been learning E for 3 years".
Do you still learn E now? yes, you are. Do you continue studying E and never take any time off during 3 year from now? No, you continue study E and never take off any time.
Next, "I 've learnt E for 3 years"
Do you still study E? yes.
Do you continue studying E and never take any time off?
yes, you sometimes take some time off.
Hi Kitty, you know I still learn E, and my ideas may not right, but I posted what I knew.
Good luck.

Thanks both sontiny and namthao very much ! hi .. your compliments make me feel ashamed , I think my E_knowledge is very little . I must try more >_*
About the fifth sentence :
I started to learn E 3 years ago .
~~> I 've been learning English for 3 years .
or : I 've learnt E for 3 years .
At school , my tacher 's tought me to transform in the second way .
But , when I did test online , the correct answer was the first sentences .
*Namthao : I know your mind , but the sentence don't have enough details for us to transform it exactly .
So , Could you tell me what the most exact way is , plz ?
About the final sentence
"You 'd better not touch the watch .
If I wish only you shouldn't touch the watch ."
I takes it from my friend 's school 's test .
He said almost students couldn't transform it .
I tried , but I wasn't sure : Is it right ?
I hope we will discuss more about E on Yahoo
PM me : beautiful_panda2001 .

Hi Kitty,
Wow, you are an activity lady who love to take any challenge where you can get advance for your future. Admiring!
I try to analize two sentences:
"You 'd better not touch the watch .
If I wish only you shouldn't touch the watch ."
Modal: "had better=should"= advise. that why I may say your technical writing perfectly.
Now let go to ideas writing:
"you had better not touch the watch"
Do you touch the watch? yes, you do. that why people advise you do not touch it.
"If I wish only you shouldn't touch the watch"
Does he touch the watch? Yes, he does and that why you advise him do not touch the watch.
Finally, In my opinion, I did not see anything wrong with these.
Hi Kitty, every teacher always has different ideas, styles and knowlege in teaching. The only way that student can be existent is "put myself in his shoes".
Good luck,

Hi All,
I found this exercise very interesting. On the surface, each sentence looks very simple, but when you see into it (ddi sa^u vao`)…, you will find it rather complicated. Furthermore, kitty did not give out the instructions of “how to do”…
And having said that, I will try, to the best of my knowledge, to do some rewritings…
Remember the discussion here is my personal opinion. It could be wrong, so please feel free to correct, I won’t feel bad nhiu`, chi? chut’ it’ thui…hi` hi`
3) I haven't met that girl before.
“This is the first time I have met that girl” … does not sound right. I think, it should be either “That was the first time I (have) ever met the girl”
4) It rained heavily last night, so we stay at home.
“Because it rained last night, we stay at home”.
Do you see something is wrong here? The fact that it rained last night has nothing to do with our staying (at) home today (present tense “stay”), unless something really bad has happened to us. So, I suggest that it should be…
“Because it rained heavily last night, we stayed at home”
(by the way, "It's raining cats and dogs"=> indicates heavy rainfall)
6) Where's Dragon Bridge?
Could u tell me where Dragon Bridge is? {câu này dùng "was" dc ko?
Yes, you can use “was” here, if…and only if the Dragon Bridge used to be located in the area, but it is no longer there…
10) They often went fishing at weekends.
“They use to go fishing at the weekends”.
Both “at weekends” (British English,…) and “on weekends” (American English”) can be used here. But, remember, “at (on) THE weekend”, not “at (on) THE weekends”. Therefore, it should be…
“They used to go fishing at weekends”.
11) I started to learn E 3 years ago.
I've been learning English for 3 years.
or: I've learnt E for 3 years .
“I've been learning English for 3 years.” is better way to express the “on going learning”…
16) Up to now / they / be / Ha Noi / twice.
“Up to now, they've been to Ha Noi twice”.
“to Ha Noi” is good here, but “in Ha Noi” is also acceptable.
18) He / usually spend/ much time / play computer games.
“He usually spends much time on playing computer games.”
Adding “too” along with “much” here makes it sound more natural…Besides, “on” is optional…
“He usually spends too much time (on) playing computer games.”
20) Lan /used / walk pass the mosque / her way / primary shool.
“Lan used to walk pass the mosque on her way to primary school.”
The adverb is “past” (=by). Ex: Every hour a bus goes past. So it should be…
“Lan used to walk past the mosque on her way to the primary school.”
21) However / this / be / first visit / Lan
“However, this is the first visit to Lan.”
Normally, we pay a visit TO a location, so the better way to express here is…
“However, this is the first visit for Lan.”
23) You'd better not touch the watch.
“If I wish only you shouldn't touch the watch.”
This is by far, the most interesting one. And it needs to be discussed in detail …
Either “I wish” or “If only”, but using “If I wish only” together here is kind of unusual…
“Had better” is an idiomatic verb phrase meaning “ought to, must.”. When speaking, you can leave out “had”, for example, “She better goes out with me!” (hi` hi`…). In writing, you “had better” keep “had”, either forms ('d better or had better) is acceptable.
Now, if “You'd better not touch the watch” indicates a desperate hope and warning, which is usually referring to the near future, this sentence should be kept unchanged.
If “You'd better not touch the watch” indicates a recommendation, the sentence should be rephrased as shown:
Present tense: “You shouldn’t touch the watch”.
Past tense: “You shouldn’t have touched the watch”
Future tense: “You'd better not touch the watch”
And if we want to use “I wish”, try these…
“I wish you had never touched the watch”
“I wish you hadn’t touched the watch”
“If only I hadn’t touched the watch, I wouldn’t have such a nightmare”

To namthao : I think it 's wrong
"if only" and "wish"is the same ... so i think we can't use both of them in one clause .It 's odd , isn't it ?
but ... It seems difficult to transform that sentences into the other that starts by " If I .... " .

"I think, it should be either “That was the first time I (have) ever met the girl”" { quote from ngtruong82 ]
i 've read this matter in ' Grammar in use "
One ex { in that book }
Tom has never driven a car before .
= This is the first time he driven a car
In my opinion , If u use "simple past" for the auxiliary clause , u should use " past perfect " for the main clause .
about the tenth . hi .. it 's actually wrong of me to write that . Thank for your comments !
